Knowledge And Attitude Among Parents Of Leukemia Children In Paediatric Oncology Ward At Public Hospital
Introduction: Knowledge and attitude of parents is essential for leukemia children who is undergoing treatment. Therefore, it is important to identify parent’s knowledge and attitude regarding their child’s disease and treatment. Objective: This study is to identify knowledge and attitude of parents with leukemia children, to determine the demographic characteristics and its association between attitude and knowledge. Methods: Cross sectional study with interview session using questionnaire form. The calculation of sample size was done by using online Raosoft sample size calculator with a confidence interval of 95%, margin of error 5%, ±0.5 standard deviation. However, in view of possibility of missing data/drop-outs, we took the whole population, that is 77 parents. Findings: Seventy six of the parent’s (98.7%) shows good knowledge meanwhile for attitude, sixty eight parents has shown positive attitude, while the other 9 parent’s showed a negative attitude in comparison on their child’s disease and treatment. Association between the demographic data and knowledge of parents with leukemia children, there is a significant relationship between parent’s educational level with knowledge, where the p-value is 0.000 which is less than 0.05. Association between the demographic data and attitude of parents with leukemia children has significant association between child’s diagnosis with parent’s attitude with p-value 0.017. Furthermore, child’s treatment status also showed significant association with attitude of parents where, sixty one children’s are those who are still undergoing treatment, p- value is 0.016.
